Let me introduce myself...

Hi, first off thanks for stopping by to look at my blog.

My name is Esprit and if you can't already tell by the title of my blog I am on my way to becoming a physician. I am a world traveler, lover of humanity, cultures, medicine, neurology, physics, intercultural communication and the art of playing the cello.

How I spend my time:

I am an avid shadowing student; so I shadow and have shadowed in multiple areas of hospitals in every location I have been in for nearly eight years now. I am an ambassador for a couple of different organizations and charities in the US .  I also play my cello in hospital waiting areas and I tutor young cellists just starting out; I have played the cello for fourteen years and counting and what better way to use a gift that you have then to give back to your community or to those who are in need. A couple of other things  I do are: I teach Sunday school, and am involved in a college ministry called Young Life. I also volunteer as an EMT in my county. For years I did medical missions every summer over recent summers I have been spending time giving back to my immediate community in need; because I think all to often we forget that you don't need to go far to find a need that you can help change. I also spend a great deal of time in my lab and tutoring/mentoring students in STEM. Of course on top of everything I have ample studying that needs to get done so I spend a great deal of time with my books but I also try to get out and enjoy a museum when I can (I particularly love modern art museums). It may seem like a lot or even impossible to do all of these things but by managing my time and prioritizing I can do all of these things with regularity since obviously, I don't do everything all in the same day.

Academics:

Education wise I graduated high school top of my class with enough dual enrollment credits to qualify me as a Junior in College. I am also a trained EMT-B which I obtained during high school. I have technically completed enough credit hours to graduate with my undergraduate degree as a multidisciplinary study major meaning that I created my own curriculum which I had to justify meticulously in writing. My degree combines medical school requirements, intercultural communication, and global medicine. I am currently finishing up my second undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering and Neuroscience.

Travel:

My world travels began at age eight and they have continued to this day as my love for medicine and people has continued to grow. I have used each travel experience I've had from the beginning to help others and to learn more about how to be a better MD when the time comes. At the age of eight, I began doing missions work with my family in Central Mexico teaching English, math, and basic health hygiene to children my own age as well as some younger and older than myself. This is one of the experiences that highlighted my love for medicine and added fuel to the fire so to speak. I have continued doing missions work every summer up until recently when my education and travels took me to a new region of the world. I studied in the UK for six months and did research about social and capitalist structures of medicine. I also began working on giving voice to international patients in my community about their medical care and treatment. My research took me throughout the EU within those six months and is continuing to develop at the present time back here in the USA. I hope to visit at least 100 countries in my lifetime and contribute something in each place I visit even if it is something as simple as helping one person, because I know that I have been helped, loved, and have learned so much from each person I have known in my life especially during my travels.

My Research:

  • I currently work in the Laboratory of Nanotechnology and nanomedicine my labs work focuses on the synthesis and applications of a wide range of carriers at the nano and micron-size scale including polymeric and metallic particles, micelles, liposomes, carbon nanotubes and metal-organic frameworks. My current project is focused on the application of our fields work in the medical field (specifically oncology).

  • I developed and carried out an independent international research project focusing on the medical practices, system, and communication in Hospitals in the UK and EU for six months to bring light to patient-physician relationships and communication conflicts in medical practices. (University of Aberdeen Scotland 2016, still ongoing)

  • I completed a 1-year research project bringing light to cultural, intercultural communication and physical barrier between native New Mexican's as well as patients using traditional medicine and medical practitioners using western medicine to treat them. (Early College Academy 2015)

  • I will add more about these projects and my other projects soon.

Stay tuned!!! :

Thank you again for stopping by I hope that you come again soon. Stay tuned for my upcoming travels, new experiences in medicine, encouraging words, and helpful tips.
